Terms of service

These terms explain what you can expect from PublicLens and what we expect from you when you report a fault, earn credits or access the staff triage desk.

Last updated 4 August 2026

1. Using PublicLens

PublicLens is a civic reporting platform that lets residents log faults — potholes, overflowing bins, late bin collection, water leaks, outages and failed street lights — and follow them until they are resolved. You may use it for genuine reports about real places.

You need an account to file reports. Keep your login details to yourself; you are responsible for activity on your account.

2. Accurate reports

Submit only reports you believe to be true, with photos you took yourself and a location that reflects where the fault actually is. Deliberately false, duplicated or abusive submissions may be removed and can lead to loss of credits or account suspension.

Do not upload images containing identifiable people, vehicle plates or private property interiors where this can be avoided.

3. Credits and rewards

Credits are a loyalty balance, not money or a financial instrument. They are awarded for verified submissions and confirmations, and can be used to vote on suggested projects, spend with network partners, redeem discount vouchers or convert to cash where that option is available in your area.

Credit values, earning rates and redemption options can change. Credits earned through fraud or automation are void.

4. Staff and municipal access

Authorised staff accounts can triage, assign, comment on and export reports. Access is granted on a least-privilege basis and every status change, assignment and note is written to an audit log.

5. Public data

Reports, their locations and their timelines are published on the public scoreboard and on individual report pages so residents can compare how areas perform. Internal staff notes are not published.

6. Availability and changes

We may update, suspend or withdraw features, and we may amend these terms. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised terms.
